When most people think of art galleries, they think of fancy parties with champagne and interesting finger foods. They probably also think of high priced art that most of us mere mortals simply cannot afford to own, even if we had the desire to lavish our hard-earned cash on a piece of art anyway! There are plenty of places out there to buy things that are more affordable, and you can usually find something that you will love to hang in your home, and you won’t have to sell the family silver in order to get it.
Where to Find Local Art Galleries
There are two local art galleries in my local shopping mall. One is a bit more pricy than the other, but both are affordable. Though many don’t think of them in the traditional sense, there are art galleries where you can find great works of art by those who might be less known, but still have a lot of skill and can produce some wonderful pieces of art that would look good in any home or office. In fact, you may find something here that you would like better than anything else, and it won’t cost you a fortune.
Independent art galleries are primarily there to help artists display their paintings and are often full of works from unknown artists looking for that big break! Many of the paintings displayed sell for very low amounts of money, meaning that you can, occasionally, pick up a bargain, particularly if you follow the work of a specific artist and think that his or her work will gain in popularity over time.
Imagine buying something from one of these art galleries for twenty five dollars from an unknown, only to have it shoot up in value one day when they hit the main stream. It doesn’t happen often of course, but it can happen. Don’t be afraid to go into one of these places you may find in the mall or off the side of the road. If you love art, you will be glad you did.
Online Art Galleries
Even better, there are many of these types of art galleries that you can find online. Here you can find things from all over the world at many different levels of price. Buying from an on-line art vendor could be a great solution if you can’t seem to find anything locally that you love at a price you can afford! If you can’t find anything from an online art gallery, perhaps what you seek just isn’t out there. Certain art galleries have artists that you can commission to create a painting for you. You can also have an artist create you a painting from a photograph, which is a great way to create a unique piece of artwork!
Art galleries vary from the local, often hard to find galleries tucked away down some side street to the large metropolitan ones located in the big cities. Personally, I love going round them all as you get to see such a broad range of artwork.
There are some amazing art galleries in the US such as The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, the Alleged Gallery in New York, the Henry Art Gallery located in Seattle. There also several art galleries in Washington DC such as the National Gallery of Art and the Washington Gallery of Modern Art.
Other famous art galleries in the United States are the Agora Gallery in New York, the Rosalux Gallery in Minneapolis, the Alaska House Gallery in Fairbanks, Alaska, and the Anchorage Museum of History and Art amongst others.
If you are ever in the UK you can also find some fantastic art galleries. In London there is the National Gallery, The Photographers’ Gallery, the Saatchi Gallery, the Whitechapel Art Gallery, and the Royal Academy of Arts.
Outside London there are several other famous art galleries you should visit including the Tate Art Gallery in St Ives, Cornwall and Tate Liverpool.
